Wondrous Reads And Chicklish Interview Elizabeth Scott

Myself and Luisa over at Chicklish were talking about our mutual love for Elizabeth Scott (author of: Something, Maybe, Stealing Heaven, Living Dead Girl, Perfect You and Bloom), and thought, why not do a joint interview?! So we did! My questions are posted here, and you can read the second (or first?) half of the interview at Chicklish, where Elizabeth talks about romance and UK teen fiction.

CL and WR - Can you tell us something about your latest book?

Sure! Something, Maybe is about Hannah, who has very embarrassing parents. VERY. Her dad--who's old enough to be her granddad--has his own reality show and made a lot of money showcasing himself and his "party" lifestyle everywhere he could, and her mom, who was once one of her dad's girlfriends, is now the star of her own website.

After getting the wrong kind of attention for far too long, Hannah has learned how to stay out of sight...and that's how she likes it. The problem is, being unknown isn't helping her get noticed by gorgeous, confident Josh, who Hannah knows is her soul mate. Between trying to figure out a way to get him to notice her, dealing with her parents, and wondering why she can't stop thinking about another guy, Finn, Hannah feels like she's going crazy. She's determined to make things work out the way she wants....only what she wants may not be what she needs.

WR - What do you think of the comparisons between your books and Sarah Dessen's?

It's amazingly flattering. I mean, it's Sarah Dessen! How can you not be amazed by that?

WR - How do you turn basic girl-meets-boy scenarios into complex, layered love stories?

Wow, thank you! I think the reason even my "love stories" have more than just love going on is that I'm very interested in family, and I tend to write a lot about that. And family, as we all know, tends to make everything more complicated!

WR - How do you manage to write so many books a year?

Luck! I sold my first three young adult novels in 2005, and the first one, Bloom, wasn't in stores until 2007, with the second, Stealing Heaven, out last year, and the third, Love You Hate You Miss You, coming out this June. So I had a good two+ year period to write--and I did! So I'm less productive than I seem :-)
